Take your kids and family to view the beautiful Howick Falls waterfall

A family picnic near one of the most beautiful waterfalls in South Africa is a must!

Howick Falls

The beautiful waterfall is located just outside the small city of Pietermaritzburg.

The view is incredibly breathtaking, just being there and experiencing it will surely give you goosebumps for days!

The location is also great if you want to sit on the grass and have a mini picnic with your family whilst taking in your beautiful surroundings.

This stunning location is known as KwaNogqaza in isiZulu, which means 'the location of the tall one'.

What makes Howick waterfall even more monumental is the history attached to it.

It is said that if you're lucky you may find a huge rainbow resting around the waterfall, maybe even a pot of gold?

There is an interesting folklore attached to the Howick Falls

Apparently, in November 1850, a plot of land in this area was marked off by the British Government. 

They presumed to name this area Howick; they assigned a guard named ‘Lodge' on this area to transport all tourists and travellers across the river. 

He put up a small inn close to the river and became the first inhabitant of the town.

Another story states that at the bottom of the Howick Falls resides a huge snake.

Many of the people residing near the waterfall state that they have spotted it multiple times in the early mornings.

Whether this is a fact or not will surely always be a mystery.
