Make Your Own Nature-Inspired Christmas Tree Ornaments

Decorating a Christmas tree is always fun! I think for many of us, this tradition is dear to our hearts, and it holds so many precious memories.

It’s an activity that brings loved ones together, sparks excitement for the festive season to come, brings laughter and joy, and adds a magical touch to our lives and homes.

Since Ava was born, I have made an effort to include more DIY ornaments in our Christmas tree decorations. DIY ornaments hold so much more meaning and love behind them. They are a reminder to me of how our little girl is growing and how blessed we are to spend these precious days together.

Scroll down to see what we have decided to make this year for our annual DIY Christmas tree ornaments! Obviously, it was inspired by nature, my favorite source of inspiration ;-)

I am so excited to share this Seasons of Home Holiday Decor Series with my talented friends!

Nature-inspired Christmas Baubles

I am always turning to nature when looking for inspiration for home decor. I love foraging for natural items around our farm to bring nature into our home. When you look closely, Mother Nature offers so many beautiful things that we often take for granted.

Not only are these items beautiful in their simplicity, but they are free! We are so often pursued by a consumer-driven life and feel “pushed” to spend money unnecessarily.

I encourage you to go out and seek all the beautiful things in nature, to reuse, reduce, and recycle!

And yes, of course, many times you would need to supplement your natural decor with store-bought decor to complete the look or be able to do a project. It’s all about balance!

This year, I decided to make nature-inspired Christmas baubles. It was a great way to personalize them, as they represent many things around our farm and the things we love and value as a family.

I filled my glass baubles with the following fillings:

  • Alpaca Fiber - Representing our love for all our farm animals.

  • Dried grasses - A reminder of how blessed we are to have found our piece of paradise here in Georgia. I even used some of my cornstalks for this!

  • Feathers (mostly from our guineas) - Thankful for our flock, who supplies us with endless laughs and fertilizer! No animals are harmed in this process:)

  • Seeds - Representing the cycle of life here on the farm and exciting new beginnings.

  • Rosemary - Our love for gardening and being able to make and enjoy farm-to-table recipes.

  • Lavender - A reminder that it is often the simple things in life that bring the most joy.

  • Flowers - Our reminder to stop, pause, smell the roses, take it all in, and appreciate the beauty all around us!

how to make your own Christmas ORNAMENTS

Making your own Christmas ornaments is so easy and quick!

  1. Go out and forage for any natural items you can find. Try finding smaller items that will easily fit into your baubles. Also, keep in mind how they may age, i.e. will the item start to rot, smell, or lose its color.

  2. Dust off any dirt, debris, and critters. Do not wash your items, as they may start to mold in the glass bauble. Or make sure they are properly dried.

  3. Open the bauble and place your fillings inside. I like not to overfill them so you can clearly see what’s inside.

  4. Close the baubles and tie your chosen piece of string so that you are able to hang them onto your tree.

Here are some more filling ideas if you want a more glitzy or colorful look:

  • Multicolor pom-poms and streamers

  • Sequins

  • Glitter

  • Faux snow

  • Punched paper shapes

  • Faux berries

  • Green or red reindeer moss

  • Mini Christmas elements like gift boxes, candy cane, reindeer or elf figures, etc.

CLEAR GLASS ORNAMENTS

What I love about making your own Christmas baubles is that every year you can make new ones with a different look or theme! It’s a fun family activity that can become a yearly tradition!

I hope you enjoy making these as much as we did!
