Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

i keep my adult Naja melanoleuca pair whole year around together, same as all of my cobras!
after the male shed his skin, i observed the female today trying to stimulate the male to breed here.

can everybody tell me more about their mating behavior? who is the one starting the "ceremony"?
how long did it take them from the first sign till finally they will copulate?

what do you feed the babies? anything else differs from other Naja species?

cheers
Mario

I haven't bred this species yet, and come to think of it, I don't remember seeing CB Forest Cobra hatchlings for sale but once, maybe twice here in the USA.
Here's a couple pics of the male I just picked up. He is right at 6' long, and as you can see, he is a show off. Not too bad of an attitude. This is the 4th Forest Cobra I've had and none had the attitudes you normally hear about. One of them was completely speckled and 8' long. He is the 3rd pic.

hi Randy,

thats one beautiful N.melanoleuca you got your self there!
in my opinion one of the most awesome elapid members.
Mambas, Taipans, Forest cobras and King Cobras are the top of the mountain!

my male has a bit of an attitude but nothing you cant handle, i just love them. snakes with character!

thanks for the picture!

She's a Beauty, Mario. Can't wait to see the babies. I don't know what problem could arise once the babies hatch as far as getting them to eat, as I have not hatched out any African Cobras, yet. My N. nivea is gravid now, so it won't be long. I've had African Cobra babies before, but they had all eaten a time or two before i got them. But, I'm sure with all the good people here we can come up with some ideas of things to try.

i am very sure about this Randy.
both Peter´s are pretty much experienced in breeding cobras and such.

Peter Zürcher is breeding Naja nivea for quite some time now. he might be able to give you a hint how to get them started and if there are somethings to watch about.

i am not sure if the guys breeds Naja melanoleuca, but it should not be a bit problem, as they have a wide variety of food we can work with.

dont know what happen this year here, it seem to me all our adult snakes are in deep love to each other, we breed almost everything here right now, eggs, gravid females or babies from some species are already hatched/born. somethings about the climate change?

lets see...

Thanks and ill cross my fingers for your Naja nivea!

cheers

Most baby South African N. Melanoleuca (subvulva) wont take mice staright off. They start off on toads/frogs and geckoes. I am not sure about the ones further north like you have as I have never bred them. Once they have started on mice they never look back and grow unbelievably fast!!
@Randy, thats great news on the Nivea! Those babies normally start off on pinks/fuzzies without too many problems, but any that are problems will always eat geckoes!
Do you have pics of your adults?? They are so variable!
Cheers

Thanks for the info Mario and Gavin.

We have plenty of toads and green tree frogs here as well as anoles and several other lizard species. The State of Florida is great about that. You can find that stuff 10 months of the year where I live. If I drive a few hours south I can find them all year round.

I imported the female N. nivea from a guy in South Africa on 08/28/01. I don't have a real good photo of her, but here's what I have. Her color is off in these pics.

The male below is a CB 8/05 from the pair of Yellow nivea that Glades had. I got him as a hatchling. He went from a normal yellow hatchling to dark brown and now you can see the brown is breaking up into speckling. He's no where near full grown yet.
