FRANKLIN, NC — A North Carolina animal rescue not only rehabbed a baby emu that was found in Wisconsin in very poor condition, but also hooked him up with a new set of wheels so he could tool around the farm.
The 2-month-old baby emu named Lemu was rescued by Bella View Farm Animal Sanctuary in Franklin. Rescuers said he had been kept in a tote bag with a slipped tendon and was half the size of his other siblings.
Founder of BVFAS for special needs animals Rhonda Farrell arranged for the emu to be transported from Wisconsin to North Carolina.
Lemu then got a wheelchair from Walkin’ Pets, a company that specializes in mobility products for animals, and Farrell said he didn’t just walk but took off running.
“The wheels help stimulate him and prevent him from getting depressed,” she said.
There are also seven goats in wheelchairs at the rescue.
