Note: If the screen flickers or briefly turns black throughout the setup, do not be alarmed! This is normal procedure. Towards the end of the steps the screen may turn black, and the ROG Ally may reset once or twice – just give it time and make sure you do not break the power connection.

  1. Ensure that the ASUS ROG Ally is plugged into the power socket and that it remains so throughout the installation (it has to be the 65W charger – nothing less powerful).
  2. Head into the MyASUS app and ensure the BIOS is up to date. To be on the safe side, just update all the software you can until you’re informed everything is up-to-date.
  3. Load the BIOS through one of the following two methods:
    • When the ROG Ally is switched off, press the power button whilst holding down the volume down button. Keep holding until the BIOS appears.
    • When the ROG Ally is switched on navigate to Settings > Recovery > Advanced Startup > Restart Now. WIthin the menu that loads select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > UEFI > Firmware Settings and select the BIOS from here.
  4. From within the BIOS menu, access the Advanced BIOS menu by pressing the Y button.
  5. Within the Advanced tab select ASUS Cloud Recovery and then select confirm.
  6. Follow the steps as instructed, which will require connecting to Wi-Fi.
  7. Finito! You should now have a clean and crispy fresh device.
