Simple Christmas Tree Decor with DIY Ornaments

Truth be told, I’ve never really been one for decorating my own tree. I grew up decking my family tree to the fullest – colored lights and all. It’s a tradition I still love doing when I go home for the holidays. But for some reason, I’ve always preferred trees in my own home to be more natural. I’d probably leave it with. just white lights on it if I thought I wouldn’t get made fun of!

This year, I decided to jazz it up a little bit add add a few ornaments and pops of color. I even tried my hand at some DIY ornaments. My inspiration for the whole tree came from these ornaments (I’ve linked to them on Amazon below, but you can buy them much cheaper and from a great small business HERE). I love the burgundy color – it ties in so nicely with my home and is a subtle touch of festivity. I added a few simple ornaments in black and white to fill some of the gaps, and then made the two ornaments below to give the tree a personal touch.

I made the brass bells using this set from Amazon and changing the color using Rub N Buff in the color Gold Leaf. I tied on this velvet ribbon (fun fact: I actually had this leftover from our wedding menus). For the wood bead (I ordered this set) ornaments, I used Rub N Buff again to change the color, and then strung them onto a piece of twine. Cut to double desired length of ornament, fold the twine in half and tie a knot at the folded end, leaving about 3 inches up top. Then string the beads on, alternating sizes, and knot at the bottom. Tip: using a needle helps string it through it the hole is a little tight.

And that’s it! You can find my tree here (it’s a 7.5′ pre-lit tree), my tree topper here, and my tree skirt here. Let me know if you have any fun tree decorating traditions of your own down in the comments!
