This dancing bird does not disappoint: Reddish Egret feeding

A Reddish Egret swallows a small fish caught in the shallows at the Estero Island Critical Wildlife Area on the south end of Fort Myers Beach.

Watching a Reddish Egret dance through the shallow water in search of food is a wildlife photographers dream.  They spread their wings into a canopy while they hunt.  It's a sudden split second movement and the fish is down the gullet.

The rusty-headed birds can be seen feeding on coastal salt flats.  They nest in red mangrove swamps and eat mostly fish but will consume, frogs, tadpoles and crustaceans.

Watch this cool video of one of Southwest Florida's most acrobatic birds.
