Miyavi's personal style begins with his skin: The English and Japanese text tattooed all over his body include kanji characters for "sound" and "blade" across his upper chest (one of his musical monikers is "the samurai guitarist") and the heart sutra across the devout Buddhist's back.
Before going solo in 2002, Miyavi debuted in 1999 as the teenage guitarist in a visual kei band, a unique Japanese glam/punk/metal subculture that makes the members of KISS look like the E Street Band. (This particular look is from a South Korean festival appearance in 2006.)
Celebrity stylist Jeanne Yang acknowledged Miyavi's rock background with this shimmery all-black ensemble for Unbroken's Dec. 15 Los Angeles premiere.

Miyavi's travel style (here, arriving at the Sydney airport for Unbroken's Nov. 17 world premiere) includes a beanie, aviators, graphic long-sleeve tee and, of course, his guitar.
Miyavi struck a pose in Ermenegildo Zegna Couture for Unbroken's London premiere on Nov. 25.
The musician-turned-actor wisely opted against pairing his cropped trousers and loud loafers with socks for a Nov. 18 press conference with Unbroken director Angelina Jolie in Sydney.
The new L.A. resident recently signed with WME and Shelter PR, and is open to further acting opportunities, while his music career continues with the September release of his latest music video, "Real?," an English-language single produced by Grammy winners Jam and Lewis (Janet Jackson).
