The Spur-winged Goose inhabits wetlands across sub-Saharan Africa.

The male is larger than the female and has a large red patch extending back on the face from the red bill and he also has a knob at the base of the bill.

Generally shy, they can be quite aggressive in defending their nests. Outside of the breeding season they are gregarious, gathering in groups of up to 50 birds.
