Comedy genius visits Gold Reef City

Joey speaks at length about his peculiar subject matter with a dose of his unique sane insanity.

COMEDY aficionados are in for a night of pure comedy genius as Joey Rasdien, South African comedy heavy-weight, takes to the stage to deliver his fifth one-man show, Point of Reference, at Gold Reef City on Thursday, November 19.

Joey’s comedy is as absurd as it is thought provoking, taking on subjects no one else would touch and his shows are renowned for reducing audiences to tears of laughter. Joey speaks at length about his peculiar subject matter with a dose of his unique sane insanity. It can be best described as hysterical, educational and thought provoking!

It was in 2004 that Joey decided to try his hand at comedy when a family member encouraged him to explore his natural talent. By 2005, he was already being cast in local movies and TV shows. With four previous one-man shows under his wing, Joey is part of a select generation of comedians, who have stood the test of time with local audiences.

Joey’s first one-man show, Joey Rasdien Live, was no one hit wonder and the comedic genius has continued producing hit shows ever since. He toured the country in 2011 with his second one-man show, Mixed DNA, which further boosted his popularity with comedy enthusiasts and led to the production of his third one-man show, Evolved, in 2013 and his fourth, Here After, in 2014.

The success of his previous stand-up comedy shows, movies, TV ads and appearances on the small screen are testament to his immense talent and the fact that his face is instantly recognisable from classics such as Running Riot, Bunny Chow, Vaatjie Sien Sy Gat, Dollars and White Pipes as well as Outrageous, Blitz Patrollie and Material with fellow comedian, Riaad Moosa.

His love of comedy has seen him perform on stages across Africa and in Toronto, Dubai and London.

“Gold Reef City is proud to bring Joey Rasdien’s new show, Point of Reference, to comedy fans in Jozi. His show is guaranteed to make you laugh, and it promises to be another sell-out performance, so fans need to get their tickets early,” said Lionel Chetty, Gold Reef City promotions and events manager.

Tickets are available at Computicket and start at R160 per person.
