Vernon Koekemoer still waiting for bed at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital

Doctors must still remove the prosthesis, treat the infection and clean the wound.

Vernon Koekemoer’s health condition is reportedly slowly improving after he was admitted to hospital in a weakened condition, following failed hip operations.

The 66-year-old resident of Witfield, whose real name is Cassie Booyse, was admitted to Tambo Memorial Hospital more than a week ago.

Koekemoer, who became an overnight sensation after he was photographed at a music festival in Boksburg in 2008, is in immense pain after failed hip operations. His partner, Linda Coetzee, blames a doctor at the hospital who, according to her, admitted that he put in the wrong prosthesis in the first operation three years ago.

Linda explained he is on antibiotics and receiving treatment to help improve his blood circulation.

She pointed out they are awaiting a bed at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital for Vernon to go under the knife again.

According to her, doctors must remove the prosthesis, treat the infection and clean the wound.

“At least he can eat, drink and talk now. However, he still can’t walk. We’re just hoping that he can find a bed at Charlotte Maxeke soon,” she explained.
