Record sales for Toyota Hilux

During the month of June, Toyota South Africa Motors surpassed its previous sales record for its Hilux.

In 2011 Toyota South Africa recorded the sales of 4 335 Hilux units, which until June 2019 was the highest monthly sales for the model locally. During June 2019, Toyota South Africa sold 1 885 double cabs, 1 648 Xtra cabs and 1 237 single cabs which comes to a total of 4 770. The result surpassed the previous record by 435. This year has proven to be a difficult year for new vehicle sales in South Africa with June 2019 recording a decline of 724 units in comparison to the same month last year.

“There are not many locally-manufactured vehicles that can claim the iconic status that Hilux has achieved in South Africa. Not only has the Hilux sold more than 1 million units to date (locally), it continues to be a sales sensation even in the trying economic climate we are experiencing,” Calvyn Hamman, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Toyota South Africa Motors.

In addition to the sales of the Hilux, the Toyota Fortuner sold 1 410 units, the Quantum Taxi and Van 1 301 units, Corolla Quest 745 units, Etios 659 units and the RAV4 recorded 653 units.

“We’re delighted with the strong sales we had last month. Clearly, being a tried and trusted brand is a strong purchasing factor in the current economy. However, we owe our sales success to the various Toyota, Hino and Lexus ambassadors – it’s the cumulative result of all the hard work and dedication of our dealers, our manufacturing division, distribution centres as well as sales and marketing teams,” Calvyn Hamman, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Toyota South Africa Motors.
