I love to recycle! Usually I recycle papers that are forgotten or destined to be pulped. These paper origami cranes are on another level! They are created from an Edson Chagas’ Print.
I picked it up a few days after the opening of The Zeitz Mocaa Museum at The Waterfront in Cape Town. It is one of 5000 mass produced prints of his photo series of Luanda, Angola – Titled Found Not Taken Because of this exhibition of the collection of prints, each visitor was able to take one home. I chose a copy of his Wooden Frame Print.
Origami Cranes from Art
I was delighted with the print. I transported it safely home. It has been neatly rolled up in my studio. I don’t have the space to display it as a print right now. As a result I decided to re-purpose it. The poster easily made up the pair of paper cranes.
We love to create from Paper – and we especially love to recreate – using found or recycled papers. Recently we completed a whole flock of origami cranes using paper from book paper that is significant to the client. (Yellow Pages)
Edson’s collection of photos focused on capturing discarded objects in the city of Luanda. – Hence the title Found Not Taken.
It seems fitting then to call this pair of birds – Freshly Found and Taken!
